bio
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts and university studies in political science, i have dedicated myself to political activism and the creation of Non- Profits to support the mental health of Colombian soldiers. My academic background and commitment to social causes deeply inform my artistic practice. Through my work, I seek not only to denounce the instrumentalization of the male body but also to redefine masculinity in the public sphere. By exploring themes of masculinity in public life, my art serves as a powerful medium to address societal issues, aiming to provoke reflection and foster a deeper understanding of justice, dignity, and the human condition.
The presence of the nude male body covered in gold leaf in my work is a deliberate and profound artistic choice that draws upon historical and classical references. In art history, the male nude has been a powerful symbol of strength, beauty, and heroism, as exemplified by Michelangelo's David and the Belvedere Torso. These iconic sculptures capture the idealized male form, often linked to themes of conflict and valor in war. By covering the nude male body in gold leaf, I create a stark juxtaposition that highlights both the vulnerability and the sanctity of the male form, transforming it into a sacred icon of resilience and sacrifice. This technique is further enriched by my use of the tenebroso style, characterized by dramatic contrasts of light and dark, which intensifies the emotional impact and adds depth to the narrative. The dark, moody palette and strategic lighting evoke a sense of solemnity and contemplation, underscoring the themes of suffering, transformation, and the redefinition of masculinity in the public sphere. Through this approach, my work not only pays homage to classical art but also invites viewers to engage with contemporary issues of identity, dignity, and human rights.
